Sports and Overuse Injuries

Most foot and ankle injuries are not the result of one dramatic moment. They build up over weeks, from a training change, a new job, worn out shoes, or a return to activity after time off. The pain starts as something you can work through and gradually becomes something you cannot.

Common problems include ankle sprains, Achilles tendon pain, stress fractures, turf toe, arthritis pain, and tendon irritation along the arch and outside of the foot. These can feel similar to each other, and a stress fracture in particular is easy to mistake for a soft tissue problem, which is why it is worth having the pain identified rather than waiting it out.

X-rays are taken here in the office

We have digital X-ray on site. If imaging will help answer the question, it is taken during your visit and reviewed with you before you leave, rather than sending you to another facility and waiting days for a report. For most injuries that means you get a diagnosis and a plan the same day.

Some injuries need imaging that we do not perform here, such as MRI for soft tissue and early stress injuries. When that is the case, we will tell you why it is needed and arrange it.

Getting back to activity

Treatment depends on what is actually wrong. It may involve activity modification, bracing or a walking boot, taping, orthotics, or a structured return to activity. The goal is to get you back to what you were doing without trading a short recovery now for a longer one later.

Injuries that are not improving after a couple of weeks, or that cause pain with normal walking, are worth having looked at.
